Plaw Hatch Farm is a 200 acre farm on the edge of the Ashdown Forest near Sharpthorne. It has been an organic farm for over 30 years and is owned by a charitable trust. They are a mixed farm with a dairy herd providing raw milk, cheeses, yoghurts and cream. The taste of the milk is affected by the diet of the cows, so the taste differs whether they are on grass, silage or hay. Our long standing customers are used to this, it's all part of being part of the rhythm of the seasons and traditional farming.

The Demeter symbol on all our produce shows that we are a certified Biodynamic Farm.

Being biodynamic it is important for us to firstly have cattle with horns; to supply and use our milk un-pasteurised (except for the yoghurt making); and to preferably not buy in the fruits and additives for the yoghurts.

Our processes are based on traditional techniques and it is very 'hands on' as the scale of the tasks are quite small and varied.

We pride ourselves on providing quite an extensive range of produce from what could be considered a relatively 'small' herd.

Our produce includes:

Milk: whole, skimmed, semi-skimmed (unpasteurised)

Cream: single, whipping, double (unpasteurised)

Yoghurt: plain set and low fat

Fruit yoghurts (seasonal): strawberry, raspberry, damson, rhubarb & ginger, apple & spice

Drinking yoghurts (seasonal): strawberry & vanilla, raspberry & cranberry, elderflower & lime, rhubarb & ginger, gooseberry & apple

Greek-style yoghurts: plain, honey, honey & almond, vanilla, creamy apple, choc pot, seasonal herbs

Cheddar: mild, mature, extra mature and vintage

Dutchman (Gouda-type, semi-soft): plain, pepper, cumin

Greek-style cow's milk cheese: plain, pepper, herb, chilli, seeds, olives

... and on the very odd occasion when we are feeling generous we make butter and buttermilk!
